Master (Tamil Movie ..)

Today I am writing about the Tamil movie Master starring Vijay Thalapathy.

Savior of theater business ..

This Pongal's grand release, 'Master', starring Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Lokesh Kangaraj, is a watershed moment not only for the team but also for the theater industry, which is in the ICU due to the coronavirus pandemic. Fans have shown incredible support by lighting up the "House Full" board for nearly a week in advance bookings. It remains to be seen whether the film meets the high expectations it has set.

Master' is a film about an alcoholic professor, JD, who clashes with gangster Bhavani, who exploits juvenile criminals, and the film highlights the power dynamics between these characters.

Thalapathy Vijay delivers a masterful performance as an alcoholic character, showcasing energy in stunts and fumbling. He also manages to convey his backstory to various characters, bringing smiles to his face. The film features references to Thala Ajith and Suriya, providing a variety of experiences for fans.

Vijay Sethupathi is the Makkal Selvan for a reason and with his towering evil act has touched yet another highpoint in his career. There is a scene when he stabs a henchman to death exhibiting a mix of emotions in his eyes that is riveting to say the least.  In the "Polakattum Para Para" song VJS is seen worshipping a statue of a deity with an unmistakable resemblance to the Nadigar Thilagam  - The most fitting symbolism in the film.

Charu, a forced character in the screenplay, is well-emoted and pretty. Andrea's ill-defined role is wasted. Gayathri Kishan's college leader is well-done. Arjun Das' ruthless villain is subdued, but his mettle is not fully demonstrated. Shanthanu Bhagyaraj's role is also underutilized.

'Master''s screen presence, charisma, and performances by Thalapathy and Makkal Selvan effectively cover narration flaws. Engaging first half with engaging characters and fun moments, along with interval block featuring Vijay and VJS.

The protagonist's character development is lacking, with juvenile tactics and weak emotions. The screenplay avoids a strong backstory for the hero, which could have helped. The first half lacks momentum, and the climax becomes comical, diluting the performances of the two stars.

Anirudh's music is a major highlight of 'Master', which has already become a chartbuster. The screenplay incorporates the songs, and the background score features special themes for Vijay and VJS. Sathyan Sooryan's cinematography captures the clash of titans, while Philomin Raj's editing smooths the film. XB Film Creators and Seven Screen Studios mounted the film on a grand scale.

Lokesh Kanagaraj stars in 'Master' with high expectations, but his performances and signature style may not be well-received by general audiences.
