SANAM  THERE KANSAM

"Sanam Teri Kasam” is Hindi Word, In English its means I swear on you, my beloved. This movie exploring the journey that arise when a man “Who wanted to love no one” crosses paths with a women “Whom no one wanted to love”. All their lives they were waiting to meet, but they just didn’t know it, and rest of it just beautiful and filled with romance, untold love, sacrifice and emotions.

" Sanam Teri Kasam is a musical tale of love, longing and loss."

After watching the movie, I experienced happiness and emotions, but won't spoil the story. I focus on the depth and impact of the story.

Sanam Teri Kasam is a modern, urban fairytale directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, featuring a feeble heroine who is let down by her surroundings, destiny, and herself. The film conveys regressive messages about beauty being a barrier to love, and that beauty is not about self-worth but about attracting and marrying a man.

Jane Saraswati "Saru" Parthasarathy (Mawra) struggles to find a suitable match in her conservative South Indian family. Her father insists on an IIM-IIT-Brahmin boy, but doesn't seem as stern towards her younger daughter Kaveri and her boyfriend. Kaveri's boyfriend wants marriage, and Saru struggles to find a suitable match. A Prince Charming Inder (Harshvardhan) helps Saru, leading to a blossoming romance, showcasing his deep love for her.

She's not the only one. Every single woman in the film is completely inert. Men drive women's lives. Even Saru's transformation is engineered by a man after being prompted by a man. What a simple transformation it is! Take off the glasses and the ill-fitting khadi suits, and voila! You hoped for some whimsy, some flight of imagination, but nothing comes through.

So all Mawra as Saru has to do is weep, cry some more, and wipe the tears from her eyes and cheeks with her hand. Also, it would be interesting to watch the film again to see if there's any sequence or scene where she doesn't end up crying.

There is a lot of crying, especially near the end, accompanied by the plaintive sounds of shehnai, a nearly extinct instrument in cinema these days. Both the hero and heroine have irrational fathers who live on the edge, cursing illogically at first and becoming unbelievably emotional at the end. Why, there's even a sobbing doctor and a crying cop here! If you tend to cry at movies, bring a box of tissues. If you are as cold-hearted as I am, you will be left scratching your head and constantly looking at the watch, hoping for things to end quickly. Unfortunately, they don't.
